Jagdamba Motors Pvt. Ltd, a subsidiary of Shanker Group, has officially launched Malaysian brand Proton in the Nepalese market. The first model of Proton to be presented by Jagdamba Motors Pvt. Ltd in Nepal is the all-new Proton Saga sedan which is priced at Rs 35.50 Lakh for the standard manual transmission variant, and Rs 39.50 Lakh for the premium automatic transmission variant.
With a history spanning 34 years and over 2,000,000 units delivered to customers in Malaysia and export markets, the Saga undoubtedly retains its position as the most popular model from a Malaysian automotive brand. The Saga is powered by a 1.3 litre four-cylinder VVT engine that delivers 91 PS and 117 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels via a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic gearbox, depending on the chosen variant, with Eco-Drive Assist.
On the outside, the Saga receives a new and more aggressively styled front bumper with integrated daytime running lamps. The grille also features the infinite weave pattern that was introduced on the Proton X70 and can also be found on the 2019 Proton Iriz and Persona. The Saga is available in five colors - Jet Grey, Snow White, Armour Silver, Ruby Red and Rosewood Maroon.
Inside, the most noticeable feature is the floating 7-inch touchscreen monitor with Bluetooth connectivity, 16GB of internal storage, and Android connectivity. Convenience features on the Saga include a remote trunk release, a sun visor with a ticket holder and mirror, LED map lamps, and new assist grips to match the new headlining material.
The Saga sedan measures 4331mm in length, 1689mm in width, 1491mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2465mm. Similarly, ground clearance stands at 150mm. The sedan gets a boot space of 420 litres and a fuel tank capacity of 40 litres. While the standard variant sits on 14-inch steel wheels, the premium variant gets 15-inch alloy wheels.
Safety features on the Saga include Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Traction Control System (TCS), Antilock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), and Hill-Hold Assist (HHA) as standard on the top-spec Premium model. All variants also come with ISOFIX mounting points and twin airbags, which gives the model a four-star ASEAN NCAP safety rating.
The Proton Saga is introduced through the company's exclusive showroom in Naxal, Kathmandu, and will be gradually introduced in other cities like Pokhara, Biratnagar, Itahari, Birgunj, Dhangadhi, and Nepalgunj, etc. through its dealership network. Likewise, other Proton models will be subsequently introduced as per the demand of the customers. The Proton Saga sedan is being offered with a warranty of 5 years/150000 km.
